KOZ PROMOTION GOT OFF TO GOOD START
Just got back from Perth - the K-OZ promotion got off to a good start. Grady Stewart an American who now lives there, did a fine job in bringing good pro mma to his community. He has another show in April which we will be fighting in and supporting his efforts, I took 3 DogBoxers to fight, Dave Mazany won the MW strap, Ashe Bowman fought a much bigger Rob Powdrill (a Muay Thai champ) and fell to a power right hand, Briggs Foreman put on a clinic to a very tuff kid out of Soa Palelei's camp.
Briggs used his DogBoxing style to a unanimous 3 round nod. Many fighters and trainers came up to us after the fight asking if we could teach them to fight like Briggs - of course we can was the answer. We look forward to recruiting an Australian DogBoxer team as well as bringing Dave back to defend his Title. The fight will be shown on LATV via WarGods as well as gofightlive tv.
K-OZ has a good start with Grady showing much talent in promoting and production as well as many talented fighters in the local Perth area, we look forward to helping bring Western Australia to the fore front of mma not only in Australia but in other parts of Asia and the States.

fame an fortune
Its been a minute since I have written our fans, we relocated to Las Vegas from Reno so life has been hectic, Las Vegas is the place to be if you are in the fight game, it is also a challange because the very cream of the crop are here and you have to do your best at all times to make it here, I guess we will find out soon if we have what it takes, I realize it can be a risky move for us but I believe in DogBoxer and what it stands for and Im ready to put my heart where my mouth is, it feels a little like starting over which is not my goal, after all the highs and lows and the victories of the last few years I have made my bones many times over and know quite a few people here in Vegas and have traveled the world fighting, doing shows an seminars and done well mostly in Northern Nevada and Northern California, I do not have the reputation and contacts here that I am used to, I have relized more than ever most of the MMA world is very local for everybody here is very national, there is alot of talented people all over the country that are not known on the national level and most working for the top spots some day here in Vegas and or the UFC especially now that UFC has bought Strikeforce the UFC is the ultimate goal, I was working a show not to long ago that I pulled out of in part behind me moving and then made a decision not to go back and finish the show, 2 people working the show are more concerned about being famous than they are about doing good work, the 2 gentlemen Im thinking about put alot of stock in how they look, one wants to always look like hes important and the other wants to be the MAN, now what is really kinda funny is both of them desire this status and never reach it and the way to reach it is right in front of them, the first person has the oppurtunity to be the man but he spends so much trying to look and convince everybody that hes the man that he does not do his work properly so its a false bottom, if he would have the right heart and agenda he would easily get there, if he would put the priority on the event and the fighters who are the show he would get the status and accolaids he desires, gemtleman number 2 has a great talent for promoting and creating alot of the right kind of attention to himself but he spends more time and money and looking like a stud he never does what it takes to just be a stud, this is a strange thing to me, is it not easier to become the person you want to be than just spend lots of time, money and energy on looking like you are who you have not yet become??? I think deep down they want to be fighters but no matter what we are wanting to be in life we have to make our bones, we have to go thru the trials and tribulations to make it real, we have to have the sand to push thru the things that try and stop us from becoming what we want to become, there is no other way, going thur the fire burns out the things that dont belong and get us focused on the job at hand, I think the fame gets to non fighters in the fight biz, they want the fame and the attention and acknowledgment and they want it so bad they spend much time and energy trying to get it when all they really have to do is do their job well and try and do it better than anybody else, they dont realize many of the fighters who are enjoying some fame and fortune have countless hours in the gym without so much as an atta boy, they have paid or are paying thier dues and are very deserving of the attention they are getting, they end up at places at the right time behind hard work not blind luck or spending their time trying to look an act like a world class fighter, the grown men out there who want to be famous for fames sake have the wrong motives and pretty much just cause grief for everybody else, and the fire eventually weeds them out, I try and spot them as soon as I can and stay away from them because they are a serious waste of time!!!!

THE FUTURE
THE FUTURE
Back in 1993 my son was 3 years old in diapers sitting by a wood stove with me on the couch one evening in Salinas Ca. I had him stand in front of me and taught him how to throw a one two punch. He was a natural - and I was not just acting like a proud Father thinking my boy was a one in million just because I birthed him. He literally threw it proper the very first time. I started taking him with me to the gym, he watched us spar, hit bags, wrap hands, jump rope, etc... In 1994 I moved to Cresennt City, Ca and started boxing at the late Dale Saundersons gym from the Yurok Tribe. Dales grandson was an alternate on the olympic boxing team in Spain the previous year and was about to have his pro debut and I was elected to be his sparring partner since nobody else in that little northen town could hang with him. Dale had a an amatuer team and one of his boys was 9 years old who was like 6-0-0, but he was very small. My son Briggs at 6 years old was the same size as the 9 year old who had a fight coming. Dale asked if Briggs might want to spar him - which he did. When we put him in the ring I told the 9 year old not to beat up my boy for this was his first time sparring. When the session began - myself and Dale were both shocked to see Briggs jabbing an moving an throwing combinations having the time of his life. I knew right then Briggs could be a fighter if he chose to be. I kept him out of the amatuers til he was 17 - didnt want him to burn out and to make sure he was boxing because he wanted to and not me.
Fast forward 4 years later and 7 boxing matches in the history books. Briggs is 2-1-0 as an amatuer mma fighter, he fights his 4th fight 2moro and I have offers to turn him pro in both boxing an MMA. He has chosen MMA, and wisely so. I took him to Thailand for 10 days where he excelled and with many many training sessions with Ken Shamrock - his ground game in American Grappling does not look half bad. Ken thankfully spent alot of personal time with Briggs along with his best training partner Sean Shamrock, Kens youngest son - who is a talent in his own right. They both fight tommorow night in down town Reno at Harrahs. I couldn't be prouder of both these boys - they represent DogBoxer as well as any seasoned pro - they are humble, easy going, work hard and as game as it gets. Hopefully myself and Ken can train and guide these boyz down the MMA path and avoid the many pitfalls and crooked places we all know exist, keep it right, keep it about the fight and the training, display heart to entertain the fans and maybe even be role models some day for other youngsters with a dream. I am surely a proud Dad, but these boyz can fight, I hope you all get to see someday

I went to South Las Vegas Church yesterday, Wanderlei Silva was in his usual seat with his family, it was less than 24 hours after his knock out loss to Chris Leben, to say Wand is impressive is an understatement as a fighter and a man, he is dedicated to his craft and his faith, I could not help but wonder where he goes from here, I doubt he wants to retire, I doubt the UFC will want to keep fighting him, they might give him a fight or 2 to help him make some money and keep him from going to another organization, lets hope somebody in his corner gets apparences lined out for him, helps keep his gym membership strong and helps him build a fight team, Wand will need support from fans, he has done alot for the sport and its very easy to start hurting for money without big paydays especially in this econmony, I hope UFC will be able to offer him avenues to make money while he starts the transition into retirement, he turned 35 yesterday as well, Im sure he has a fight or 2 in him still if not more, the fight game is tuff, the fight buisness is tuff, I have seen the other side of fame and retirement and thats even harder than rising to the top believe it or not, a fighter devotes his whole life to the fight game, physically, mentally and spiritually and by the time you really get on your feet and established, retirement looms its ugly head, its not really fair but such is the fight game, most of the time we all give more than we receive, its neither wrong or right it just is, so if you are in Vegas go by his gym, take a class, buy a shirt, sponsor one of his fighters, if he fights buy a ticket weather you think he should be fighting or not, if a praying person throw a prayer up for him, he has giving his all to entertain us and be a world class athlete it wasnt easy and retirement wont be either.

NEW LEAGUE
NEW LEAGUE
Seems there is alot of interest in the 30 seconds on the ground Ken Shamrock and Ivaylo Gotzev are working on bringing the combat world, it surely makes it a more even playing field for boxers and kickboxers. This new league quite possibly could be an exciting arena to fight in, another revenue stream for fighters with - as it looks from here alot of knock outs. Im sure DogBoxing will be a fine style for these venues, Sean Shamrock (Ken's youngest son) and Briggs Foreman from the IFC gym in Reno will be fighting July 8th at Harrahs in downtown Reno. Both these boyz training hard and looking good. Heard thru the grape vine Shark Fights will be making an announcment soon for an up coming show in Reno, also Convicted Artist will be announcing another MMA Roast soon. Grady Stewart our home grown boy who now lives in Perth Australia just hit the U.S. and we working on doing a Pay Per View there in October of this year. Danny Green has thrown in his support as he fights Tarver in July, these are a few things DogBoxer has going on at the moment - will try and keep everybody updated

KEN SHAMROCK
KEN SHAMROCK
A new spin on MMA is being formed behind boxing giant Ivaylo Gotzev, the legend Ken Shamrock, so far it seems like the idea is getting some legs behind it, a fighter will have only 30 seconds on the ground to pull a submisiion or knock out his opponent before the fight is stood up, this gives pro boxers and kickboxers more incentive to take up the ground and fight with a much better chance of winning, Ken will fight former world champion James Toney, Ken feels this type of stage will give Toney a very real chance of winning the bout the fight will be held in Houston Texas, I am sure we will see fire works for a few as these 2 try and take each others heads off, Ivaylo has his IFC gyms in L.A. and Reno Nevada with world class boxers and more than a few Russian MMA stars, the 2 former champions face off tonite and announcements for the fight following

MMA - THE HEART OF AMERICA
I have been watching the history channel and the mini series "America The Story Of Us". It is quite a fascinating piece of work. It definitely makes me proud to be an American - even with the many attacks and people being self appointed agents of change. We Americans are still a very ingenious, innovative and hard working people. However; our government is no longer effective. If we ran our gym the same way the government runs the DMV we would be out of buisness!
We Americans are still a very ingenious, innovative and hard working people and MMA is an expression of America's very soul. What other country would start a promotion to find out which martial art is truly the most effective, and to find out who really is the baddest of the bad. What other country has put two boxers in the ring where the athletes get paid up to 30 million dollars.
We Americans are a melting pot of people and we have used the ideas that immigrants have brought here and made this country even better.
The Natives of this country have contributed many things to our individuality that they seldom get credit for. John P. Colby brought little Irish pit dogs to America and bred them to be American Pit Bull Terriers - which were the very symbol for America and the symbol of victory during World War 2. We were the first to make steel, drill for oil and Mr. Ford came up with the Model T so that everybody could experience the freedom of being mobile. Harley Davidson turned a motorcycle into a lifestyle, we put a man onto a brahma bull and turned it into one of the most exciting sports in the nation. Bootleggers building cars to out run the cops is now Nascar. Where else do these things happen?
It would take a month to write down all the many things Americans have contributed to the world, we are the most generous nation history has ever seen. We are the first ones there at every disaster no matter what the country and the tragedy. We are fighters.
I know DogBoxer brand is the symbol for American fighters. MMA is the very soul of America with the innovation of combining all the martial arts the world has to offer and not only making a more effective form of combat, but a billion dollar industry.
It saddens me at times to see what the powers that be try to do to us and our country, we have so many haters that would love nothing better to see MMA banned here in the USA. People are trying to eliminate the American Pit Bull - trying to tell us what sport we can partake in, what breed of dog we can own. They want to take away our right to bear arms - I mean the list goes on.
I remember when the seat belt law came into being, is it not a right to drive in our car with out a seat belt? As long as we are not hurting others what difference does it make. Now I am not saying it is a good thing not to wear a seat belt - I have personal experience of what this can do if you are in an accident, but does it have to be a law? And if you get caught not wearing one they take your money and if you get enuff tickets for not wearing one they take away your driving privileges. If I want to be stupid and not wear my seat belt and it only hurts me should I not have that right? Why couldn't they just campaign that the goverment cares about its citizens and asks that we please wear it for our own safety?
There are so many examples I could give for this type of regulation. How many Americans have died for our God given right to be FREE. It does not matter who is President, these are our real issues. Who decides how much freedom we have?
I do think we Americans have gotten soft and spoiled. Some of these issues are our own fault - just for letting them happen. Power hungry people decide what is best for us, will it ever stop? I am well aware I cannot solve the worlds problems. All I am lookin to do is stir some thought on the subject. Looking back at history is a good thing so as not to repeat mistakes, but its also good to remember where we came from.
So much of what we take for granted started out as somebodies dream, and many times somebody had to fight for that dream and even die for that dream. That is our history no matter what race you are. One thing we all have in common is that we are Americans and we are here because people had a dream of a free nation and they were willing to fight for that dream as well as die for that dream. Should we be no less committed?
This is our country! Every human has a dream and every person has the RIGHT to make that dream come true and like it or not we are all in this together, we need to fight together and if things keep going the way they are going - die together.
If we have something worth dying for - we are a very blessed people - in my opinion.

HOW REAL IS ULTIMATE FIGHTER?
I've been asked how real I think the Ultimate Fighter show is. Well the other day I was watching Dog The Bounty Hunter as it came on TV - now Dog fans please forgive me for what I am about to say, but as I watched this Dog doing his reality TV show I did not see much reality at all. I saw this middle aged guy dressed up like Sitting Bull saying he was native. I mean the guy has blond hair with a bald spot, shaves his chest and looks more like a guy from the Aryan Nation than a native. He runs around talking about how dangerous his job is all the while he is pepper spraying dope fiends. Then he talks about how he is a hardened convict and was locked up for murder in Texas, but he's been out 30 years. The last time I checked Texas gave murderers life or a led aspirin. I don't even want to go into the impression I got from his wife because I don't believe its fair to talk about a man's wife unless he is in front of me, but words might not describe what I saw anyway.
So the Ultimate Fighter is plenty real compared to this wanna be Indian running around in cowboy boots spraying bail jumpers with pepper spray. Now they do script certain things and encourage certain behavior to make it more entertaining, but they are training and fighting for real and for that we give them props and we give them hope for their continued success. I have heard from guys taping the next series that it's going to be a good one, its the 185 division and they do have some good talent fighting for real to earn the contract. Hopefully the fighters who don't make the cut don't end up in the intense violent world of Dog The Bounty Hunter. I mean what fighter could possibly survive a day with all the harsh reality and brutality he has to deal with everyday!!!!!
